Specialized Care to Help You Regain Comfort, Confidence, and Control

At Catalyst Physical Therapy, we understand that pelvic health concerns can affect nearly every aspect of your daily life. Whether you are experiencing bladder leakage, pelvic pain, discomfort during intimacy, or changes related to pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause, our specialized Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy services can help you regain control and improve your quality of life.

Pelvic floor dysfunction is common, but it is not something you simply have to live with. Our physical therapists provide personalized, compassionate care to identify the underlying causes of your symptoms and develop a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.

What Is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that supports the bladder, uterus, and bowel. These muscles play an important role in bladder and bowel control, sexual function, and core stability.

When pelvic floor muscles become weak, overly tight, uncoordinated, or painful, they can contribute to a variety of symptoms.

Pelvic floor physical therapy focuses on restoring proper muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, and function to help reduce discomfort and improve daily activities.

Conditions We Treat

Our Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy services can help address:

  • Urinary Incontinence: Bladder leakage associated with coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, or sudden urges to urinate.
  • Pelvic Pain: Persistent discomfort in the pelvic region, lower abdomen, hips, or lower back.
  • Painful Intercourse: Pain or discomfort associated with sexual activity.
  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse: Symptoms of pressure, heaviness, or discomfort associated with reduced pelvic organ support.
  • Pregnancy and Postpartum Recovery: Changes in pelvic floor strength, abdominal function, and core stability during and after pregnancy.
  • Menopause-Related Pelvic Floor Changes: Muscle weakness, urinary symptoms, and pelvic discomfort associated with hormonal and physical changes.
  • Bowel Dysfunction: Difficulty with bowel control, constipation, or problems coordinating pelvic floor muscles.
  • Core Weakness and Abdominal Separation: Rehabilitation of abdominal and pelvic muscles, including diastasis recti following pregnancy.

Our Treatment Approach: Internal and External Pelvic Floor Therapy

At Catalyst Physical Therapy, we offer both internal and external pelvic floor assessment and treatment techniques, allowing us to develop a more individualized approach based on your symptoms, comfort level, and clinical needs.

External Pelvic Floor Therapy

  • External techniques may include:
  • Targeted pelvic floor and core strengthening exercises
  • Manual therapy to address muscle tension and restricted soft tissues
  • Breathing techniques and pelvic floor coordination training
  • Postural correction and movement retraining
  • Bladder and bowel habit education
  • Therapeutic exercises to improve flexibility, strength, and stability

Internal Pelvic Floor Therapy

When clinically appropriate, our trained physical therapists may recommend an internal pelvic floor examination or treatment to assess muscle strength, coordination, tenderness, and tension more directly.

Internal techniques may help identify areas of weakness, tightness, or dysfunction that are difficult to assess externally.

Your comfort and privacy are always our priority. Internal examinations and treatments are explained in advance, performed only with your informed consent, and are never required for you to participate in pelvic floor physical therapy. You may decline or stop an internal procedure at any time.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first visit begins with a private discussion about your symptoms, medical history, concerns, and personal goals.

Your physical therapist will perform an appropriate evaluation and explain the treatment options that may be beneficial for your condition. Depending on your needs and preferences, your evaluation may include external assessment, internal pelvic floor assessment, or both.

Together, we will develop an individualized treatment plan focused on reducing symptoms, restoring function, and helping you return to the activities you enjoy.
